Your departure : Dijon

Looking to spice up your stay? Welcome to Dijon! The capital of Burgundy has some of the most exciting things to do as a couple. From cooing in the city of a hundred steeples, to greeting the Dukes of Burgundy (who almost dethroned the King of France), to sampling the region’s specialities, the programme is sure to be packed.

Good morning Burgundy!

A cup of coffee, two nonettes*, a few kind words and you’re off in the morning to discover historic Dijon on the famous Owl Trail. The concept? One hour’s walk and 22 stops around the main heritage landmarks, from the rue des Forges to the church of Saint-Michel. It’s a great way to get to know the local feathered mascot and hoot with delight as you explore the town’s heritage.

* Delicious round gingerbread filled with marmalade

Who would have thought it?

Legend has it that the Dijon Owl brings good luck to those who stroke it with their left hand. Now it’s your turn!

The beginning of hunger

Feeling peckish? Don’t miss Monique – boire et manger, one of our favourite addresses in Dijon. Quite simply, we love everything about this Dijon restaurant. From its authentic simplicity (noise, laughter and conversation) to its commitment to the environment (short circuits, local producers, fresh, raw produce) and its colourful, polished dishes: Monique is a big yes at lunchtime. And that’s not counting the very reasonable prices, accessible to all couples…

In the afternoon

You’re in luck, there were two places left for the mustard workshop! Yes, but not just any mustard. Renowned the world over, Dijon’s most famous mustard reveals its secrets in a very special cooking class. In just a few minutes, you’ll be in the heart of the Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin, determined to become the next great mustard masters. But first, you’ll have to grind, whisk, taste, season, rectify and ask your partner to taste again to get the perfect result. Not just anyone can be William Frachot*!

Cep in the City

Want to extend your visit to the Cité? Don’t miss the Chapelle des Climats et des terroirs, a beautiful exhibition housed in an astonishing stone setting. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about our famous Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, the vineyard plots that are the pride of Burgundy. It’s free!

Those evenings

What better way to round off the first day than with a tête-à-tête in a perched bar? Nuage is one of Burgundy’s leading cocktail bars. Here, French ingredients are king! It’s a demand that has seen its head bartender Colin Lac make it to the podium of numerous international competitions.

Another room, another atmosphere, another budget: welcome to the Cave wine bar. Housed in a 17th-century Burgundy stone building, this gastronomic address plunges you into its contemporary, minimalist universe. Don’t be fooled by appearances: behind the raw, organic decor lies an ultra-refined cuisine that takes the senses on a beautiful journey to the four corners of the world.

Our favourite note

If you’re on a road trip during the summer season, don’t miss the Apéritifs de la Tour! From May to October, enjoy a relaxed aperitif at the 45-metre-highTour Philippe le Bon overlooking Dijon and the entire Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne.

Day 2 Napoleon's heels, snail crisps and sidecar

Move on and continue your road trip towards the Côte de Nuits! Patronised by Saint-Georges, this astonishing succession of Climats will delight you with its charming villages, grands crus and local specialities. When we tell you that it’s not the size that counts… Hectares, of course.

Good morning Burgundy!

No Véronique and Davina in sight this morning, but a very invigorating warm-up spotted on the Balades en Bourgogne app. One hundred steps on the way out, one hundred steps on the way back: here you are on the 2 “Hundred Steps” trail as you explore the region’s heritage. If your calculations are good, your heart rate is obviously not! Don’t blame the boeuf bourguignon you had the day before, it had nothing to do with it.

Tonic vine

After the effort, it’s time for comfort at Domaine de Cluny, where a chic, educational tasting awaits you. Thought you knew everything there was to know about Pinot Noir? Wait until you try it…

The beginning of hunger

Feeling peckish? Treat yourself to a gourmet break at La Table d’Éole. With its hushed surroundings, heartfelt dishes and cocooning atmosphere, you’ll be in for a romantic lunch.

Retro, Lavaux, dodo

Vintage has never been so trendy with Rétro Tour Bourgogne! Jump into your sidecar as a duo and let your guide take you on a tour of the region’s roads. 1 hour of pure pleasure, between speed, vineyards and adrenalin. Oh dear, is it over already?

At the end of the afternoon, the bikers’ club returns to La Combe Lavaux, on the edge of the nature reserve. A walk, a well-kept secret (a flower unique in the world, the biscutelle de Dijon), a tasting of gougères* in the vineyards, and the sun is already setting.

*Choux pastry made with local cheese. A savoury chouquette, if you prefer.

In fine fettle

Did you say bubble and stroll? Then head for the Castel de Très Girard in Morey-Saint-Denis, a haven of peace nestling in the heart of the vineyards. With its elegant rooms and warm ambience, it’s the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle. Under a soft duvet, between stone walls and a bucolic garden, you can let yourself be carried away by the gentle Burgundy atmosphere. Just the thing to recharge your batteries… and perhaps extend the pleasure for a night or two.

Welcome to Beaune. Here, the roofs shine with a thousand colours and the cellars hide treasures. This morning, we put on our trainers and set off to meet the star of the Côte-d’Or, wine capital and queen of the Climats.

Good morning Burgundy!

Let’s head for the Hôtel-Dieu des Hospices Civils de Beaune. Its name is as long as its history is fascinating. A medieval hospital, a Gothic masterpiece, chequered roofs that turn heads… It deserves a declaration of love.

Fancy a little wine break? Stop off at the Domaine Besancenot for a wine tasting session. It’s a great way to delve into the secrets of the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, theUNESCO-listed plots where each grape variety has its say.

The beginning of hunger

Looking for the perfect dish? Rely on Caves Madeleine for an explosion of 100% local flavours. Bœuf bourguignon, pôchouse, and a wine list as long as an enthronement speech… Royal, of course.
