Between friends Friends trip in Burgundy

A few days ahead of you, a group of friends, and the urge to cut loose. On the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or, the road-trip takes on a special flavour: that of quiet bends, of terraces that beckon, of unannounced tastings. You pedal, you savour, you linger. A farmhouse at the bend in the road, a bistro in the shadow of a bell tower, a conversation in the air. Here, everything invites you to lift your foot… and your glass. It’s a trip with friends, a concentrate of epicureanism and lightness. Always with the beauty of the land in the background.

Day 1 Handlebars, forks and hearts

Start : Nuits-Saint-Georges

First turns of the wheel in Nuits-Saint-Georges, first emotions on the plate, first grapes spotted between the low walls. The tone is set: this road trip will be sensory, sincere and anything but rushed.

Good morning Burgundy!

In Nuits-Saint-Georges, you don’t start your stay with your hands in your pockets. You put them on the handlebars, preferably vintage ones. La Solexerie sets the tone: we ride for pleasure. On the Voie des Vignes, retro Solexes and electric bikes glide between low walls, groves and perfectly tended vines. Every stop is a special moment: a plot of Pinot Noir in full bloom, a bell tower in the distance, or perfectly aligned vines.

The beginning of hunger

Le Premnord stands in stark contrast to the expected image of a country inn. Designed by Henry-Frédéric Roch, a leading figure in Burgundy’s natural wine scene, this contemporary address unfurls its U-shaped silhouette facing the vineyards. Three courses, a few suggestions and a fine selection of drinks: just the thing for a stopover without losing touch with friends!

In the afternoon

In Concoeur, Ferme Fruirouge puts berries like blackcurrants at the heart of the game. In season, the field game invites you to explore orchards and production secrets. Out of season, the visit is still a tasty mix of family tradition and well-thought-out delicacies.

Then it’s on to the vineyards. At Villars-Fontaine, the Domaine de Montmain is off the beaten track with its free vinification and special cuvées. Alternatively, head for Chambolle-Musigny, where Domaine Boursot has been perpetuating the elegance of pinot noir for five centuries.

Those evenings

Le Castel de Très Girard, a former 17th-century wine press set among the vines of Morey-Saint-Denis, has retained its soul, with stone walls, hushed volumes and soft light. On the plate, Burgundy expresses itself with a few winks from elsewhere. And a wine list to match!

Day 2 Dukes, tastings and DJ set

After the vineyards, it’s time for the towns. And what a town it is. Dijon brings together history, culture and fine wines. You arrive with your curiosity sharpened and your appetite whetted. You go from apron to cobbled pavement, from meurette to mustard, from barrel to club chair.

Good morning Burgundy!

In Dijon, the day begins behind the scenes of taste. Head for the Cité de la Gastronomie, where you can swap your car keys for an apron or a tasting glass. Two atmospheres, one pleasure: the cooking workshop, where you can get your hands dirty (or rather, your sauce) in a relaxed atmosphere. Alternatively, enjoy an introduction to wine at the École des Vins. Here, you can dissect the Grands Crus as if you were unwrapping a precious gift, guided by professionals who know how to make a glass speak better than anyone else.

The beginning of hunger

Still in the heart of the Cité, Meurette & Persillé makes a heartfelt nod to Burgundy tradition. Homemade terrines, oeufs en meurette, pieces to share or truffle croque: the plate goes straight to the essentials, with just the right amount of generosity, season and sauce. Halfway through the journey, this is the comforting stage. It’s the one that makes you feel good without slowing you down.

In the afternoon

Dijon can be visited in the same way as a fine wine: in small steps, with your nose to the wind, and with the desire to be surprised. By following the owl’s trail suggested by the Tourist Office, you’ll pass through the centuries without getting bored, from timber-framed houses to town houses, between Gothic art and the secrets of the Dukes.

Then it’s on to La Fine Heure for a tasting experience like no other. ” La Cuve en Ville” is the experience of a wine in the making, straight from the barrel. A raw, unfiltered moment to be enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. We talk about substance, texture and acidity, but always without fuss.

Behind an elegant facade in Dijon’s historic centre, Dr Wine offers an array of bottles and winks. More than just a wine bar, it’s a place where people talk about terroir, where you can choose between a buttery Meursault, a powerful Gevrey or a Puligny with a fine, elegant nose. The sommelier will guide you through a cellar that gives pride of place to Burgundy appellations, but doesn’t shy away from favourites from elsewhere.

Right in the centre of Dijon, the Aloft is a bit of a departure from traditional hotel codes. With its glass roof, graphic lines and open spaces, the atmosphere is urban, lively and a touch arty. The rooms have a contemporary feel, with neutral tones and well-thought-out details. Downstairs, the W XYZ bar sets the pace (literally), with occasional DJ sets. A perfect address for those who like to keep the night going… without leaving the hotel.

Day 3 Barrels, fruit and bottles

Beaune holds out its arms to the group of friends. And this morning, we’re refining our taste buds or stirring up our ideas. We go from barley to grand cru without ever leaving the Côte d’Or. From traditional sparkling wines to exceptional bottles, there’s something for everyone.

Good Morning Burgundy!

Brewing is an art, and at Bière Expérience, we put our hands in the vat to understand hops like never before. Malts, temperatures, yeasts: everything becomes crystal clear. A brewing experience not to be missed.

In the cellar, Millésimes à la Carte awaits you for a guided tasting. Grands Crus by the glass, expert commentary and a hushed atmosphere. No long-winded speeches: just the right amount of education to help you savour every drop.

The beginning of hunger

L’O à la Bouchelives up to its name. At lunchtime, the formula hits the spot, with a carefully-choreographed dish of the day, plates to share (or not) and desserts not to be missed. The service is efficient, the atmosphere relaxed, and the terrace adds a sunny touch to the picture. A stop-off that recharges without weighing you down, so you can start again on the right foot.

In the afternoon

The afternoon begins in the fragrant fumes of the Alambic Bourguignon. Behind the copper vats, discover this traditional distillery and its secrets. Fine liqueurs, racy eaux-de-vie, well-kept recipes: it smells of tradition brought up to date with 100% Burgundian recipes. Apricot or Pinot Gin, which will your friends fall for?

Then take the road to Caves Nuiton-Beaunoy. Same spirit of transmission, different register. In the cellars, you taste, compare and exchange. And above all, there’s the tasting cellar with its panoramic view. More grapes, but in a different light. And it’s a nice pairing: first the still, then the vine.

Day 4 Clap de fin, oak chips and pedal strokes

Last sunrise on the roads. This morning, the gang of friends are still savouring the scenery, the stories and the skills. We’re either following in the footsteps of a cult duo or we’re saddling up. Whichever option you choose, there’s always the taste of a great adventure: one that combines culture, local produce and pleasure, without ever forcing you. One last day to come full circle… at your own pace.

Good morning Burgundy!

This morning, it’s a choice between cult films and time-honoured know-how. In Meursault, the ” La Grande Vadrouille ” tour invites you to follow in the footsteps of Louis de Funès and Bourvil, where the history of wine meets that of the 7th art. Anecdotes, scenery and cinematic winks make for a morning of light-hearted fun.

There’s a different atmosphere at Vignoles, with L’Art du Tonneau. This is a journey into the intimate world of wood and wine. Follow the barrel-maker’s movements and listen to the oak speak beneath the tools. It’s a rare immersion in the senses and in life, where the container becomes almost as noble as the content.

L’Agastache focuses on seasonal produce and homemade dishes. The menu changes often, depending on the market and local producers. What’s the latest? Green asparagus, a perfect egg and burrata espuma, grilled octopus or a heart of entrecôte with Malabar pepper, all in an elegant setting.

In the afternoon

Pedal between the rows of vines or stroll with smartphone in hand! With Olivier Leflaive’s Wine Bike, you can discover the panorama on an electric bike, with your nose to the wind and your eyes wide open.

With friends, be sure to try out the Balades en Bourgogne app, which turns the wine trails into a playground of sound. It’s the perfect way to explore the climats, the parcels of land that give Burgundy its identity.

Those evenings

In Santenay, L’Ouillette plays the old-fashioned bistro card, with just the right amount of deliciousness and well-chosen wine. The menu doesn’t beat about the bush: escargots en persillade, escalope crème-champignons, chocolate mousse. Classics revisited in the best possible way! This is the kind of place you’ll come back to again and again.
