Meursault

Meursault: between cinema, Chardonnay and exceptional châteaux

Between Beaune and Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault is undeniably a legendary stop-off on the Burgundy Grands Crus Route in the Côte-d’Or. A wine-growing village where rows of vines and glazed tiles sparkle in the sun, where you can recognise the settings of La Grande Vadrouilleand where Chardonnay flows like liquid gold. Here, heritage, traditions and the Burgundian art of living come together in a unique setting, to the rhythm of the cuvées and encounters. A warm atmosphere that makes you want to put down your glass… and your heart.

Getting there

A land of wine and excellence

Created in 1937 (like the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne!), the Meursault appellation embodies the quintessence of Chardonnay. Its prestigious wines bear the name of the village, with or without the name of one of the Climats. There are19 Premier Crus to choose from: golden, round, silky white wines for which each name – Les Gouttes d’Or, Les Perrières, Les Charmes – sounds like a promise. The monks of Cîteaux recognised the full potential of these lands as early as 1098, Thomas Jefferson loved them and the craze has lasted for years!

“Tea for two and two for tea”… Meursault is above all a cult scene! Gérard Oury and the heroes of La Grande Vadrouille, immortalised in the famous town hall. Between blonde stones and glazed roofs, you’ll pass through a setting worthy of the films Ce qui nous lie or La Grande Vadrouille, strolling between the winegrowers’ houses and the church of Saint-Nicolas, a listed Clunisien site.

Château de Meursault, the landmark of Meursault, has dominated the village and surrounding vineyards for over a thousand years. A former medieval fortress turned elegant residence, it embodies Burgundy’s winegrowing history and the prestige of the great wines of the Côte de Beaune. Surrounded by historic vineyards and cellars, the château is a unique testimony to Burgundy’s architectural heritage and wine-making expertise, at the heart of the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne.

From March to November, Meursault lives to the rhythm of festive events: the Banée, a convivial dinner with the winegrowers; the De Bach à Bacchus Festival, a joyful alliance of music and wine; and the legendary Paulée de Meursault, which brings the Trois Glorieuses to a close in a whirlwind of laughter and raised glasses, notably at Château de Meursault.

A gentle pace of life

On the Voie des Vignes, you can cycle between prestigious estates and châteaux, stopping for a tasting, a view or a chat. Between vineyards, heritage and emotions, Meursault distils a concentrate of authentic Burgundy.
