Savigny-lès-Beaune: at the heart of the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne

Between Beaune and the Montagne de Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune stretches out peacefully in the hollow of two hills, surrounded by vineyards that undulate like a sea of green. On the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or, this wine-growing village combines heritage, conviviality and tradition with disarming charm. Here, wine is more than an art: it’s a way of living in the world, a heritage handed down from generation to generation.

Getting there

A village with a taste of history

Savigny began in the Middle Ages. The lords built a castle, the monks planted vines and the village prospered in the shadow of its towers. The etymology says it all: “Savigny” comes from Sabinius, the Gallo-Roman who founded the village. And history continues to flow through the stone of the medieval castle, the wash-houses, the ancient bridges and the narrow streets lined with winegrowers’ houses. Even today, the Romanesque church, footpaths and estates tell the story of a village where life is lived to the rhythm of the seasons and the wine.

Must-sees in the village

Savigny also has a taste for surprises. The Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune, built over 600 years ago, houses an unusual and incredible collection of 7 museumswith no fewer than 250 motorbikes, 8,000 models, 20 fire engines and 100 fighter planes from all over the world: a paradise for lovers of fine mechanical engineering! Yes, right in the heart of wine-growing Burgundy! And between two exhibitions, you can stop off for a tasting at one of the estates, a gourmet market or a stroll through the vineyards.

From wine festivals to summer evenings, the village cultivates a lifestyle of sharing, music and culture. There’s no rush here. Just enjoy. You take the time for a drink on the terrace, a walk in the vineyards or a sunset on the hillsides. Savigny-lès-Beaune is the Burgundy we love: simple, lively and authentic.

Wines that are both soft and full-bodied

The Savigny-lès-Beaune reds are like poems: ruby colour, aromas of cherry, redcurrant, violet and undergrowth, silky tannins and a long finish. The whites, rare but luminous, combine hawthorn, honey and wet stone with irresistible delicacy. A wine of character, but all finesse, reflecting a generous terroir between Côte de Beaune and Hautes-Côtes. Here, 42 climats classified as Premier Cru testify to the richness of the vineyards. A truly exceptional setting for wine-lovers.
