Couchey

Couchey, the "Loups" vineyards

On the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or, between Fixin and Marsannay-la-Côte, Couchey plays the quiet charm card. This wine-growing village exudes wine, tradition and heritage, like an authentic interlude just a stone’s throw from Dijon. The hillsides bathed in light, the cool shade of a hundred-year-old lime tree and a good glass of wine are all promises that are sure to be kept. Couchey is that little corner of Burgundy where every stone tells a story, and where curiosity is your guide.

Getting there

Vines with fangs

In just 10 minutes, you’re transported from everyday life to a complete change of scenery: the vines embrace the limestone hillsides, the green valleys stretch towards the horizon and the landscape seems to whisper “take your time”. The village’s wine-growing history began in the 7th century, when the Abbey of Bèze donated vine plants. Although Couchey’s vineyards have been through a great deal of upheaval over the years, you can still taste the wines produced here under the Marsannay appellation since 1987. And the “Wolves” (the nickname given to the locals) of Couchey are carrying on this heritage with panache!

Must-sees in the village

A quick trip back to the 19th century: you can imagine the winegrowers sketching out the plots of land that make up today’s Marsannay AOC, the emblematic appellation of the area. Red, white, rosé: the whole palette of the terroir is expressed in the village’s cellars and estates. Taste, share and savour the warmth and aromas – a Burgundian art perfectly mastered.

As you wander around Couchey, you’ll discover a concentration of Burgundy architecture: the church of Saint-Germain, recognisable by its glazed-tile bell tower, the charm of the winegrowers’ houses, the Renaissance cross, and the Château de Couchey set in a peaceful setting. Here, every diversions adds a nuance to the picture, between history, the gentle way of life and silhouettes of stone warmed by the sun.

Large format nature

Couchey is the kind of destination that doesn’t make a lot of noise, but makes a lasting impression. An authentic village, vibrant with heritage, wine, terroir and simple emotions. Couchey is an ideal playground for contemplative walks. Walk, breathe, listen: the scenery does the rest.
