Getting there

Chenôve, between town and vineyards

Chenôve is Burgundy in miniature: wine, golden stone and people who are proud of their land. Situated to the south of Dijon, the town stretches right up to the first slopes of the Côte de Nuits vineyards, the birthplace of the legendary Grands Crus. The town is still home to a number of wine estates and a heritage steeped in tradition. Here, the countryside meets the town, and the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne is off to a great start.

Must-sees in the village

A little curiosity: the large capstan wine presses in Chenôve, which can still be seen today, date back to the 15th century and belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy. These wooden giants could press up to 70 tonnes of grapes in a single cycle! A medieval feat that has been listed as a Historic Monument.

And fun fact: they were still in use until 1926! So, in Chenôve, wine is serious business – but always with panache.

If Dijon is the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy, Chenôve is their cellar. Some vineyards are still in production today, perpetuating the tradition of royal pinot noir. And as you stroll through the old town, you’ll rediscover that Burgundian charm of blond stone and the scent of wine.

Chenôve has seen some colourful characters pass through its doors: the Dukes of Burgundy themselves, of course, but also some of the great names in winegrowing. More recently, local artists and chefs have helped to raise the profile of the town and its art of living. Here, the prestige of the past inspires the talents of today, between wine estates, culinary creations and pride in heritage.

With its ducal history and passion for wine, Chenôve is much more than just an entrance to the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or: it’s an immersion in the very soul of Burgundy. Here you can breathe in the stone, taste the wine and feel the passage of time. A stopover that combines heritage, authenticity and good humour – in short, everything we love about this region blessed by grapes and the heart.
