01 - It was built by Cistercian monks
900 years of history is no mean feat. If you go back to the origins of the Château du Clos de Vougeot, you’ll find that it was built in the 12th century. At that time, it was the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux (yes, yes!) who decided to build wine-making buildings on the land. It may not yet be the château as we know it today, but these were the foundations of an estate that is inextricably linked with Burgundy.
