On the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne, the Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune is the talk of the town. At the same time, it’s not every day you get to visit a wine estate that houses unique collections of racing cars, motorbikes and aerospace. With its rich history, astonishing heritage and AOC wines, this château is like an unusual museum. If you were looking for originality, you’ve come to the right place!

A glittering story

From the 14th century to the present day, the Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune has been on the move. And not just a little! Although the estate was originally a Gothic fortress dedicated to the defence of the Duchy of Burgundy, it soon became a seigneurial residence in the hands of the Bouhier family. But the château took a surprising turn when it was bought by Michel Pont in 1979. This former racing driver and passionate winegrower decided to transform the estate into a unique place. Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune became more than just a wine estate. It was transformed into a veritable museum of France’s automotive and aeronautical heritage. It’s a wonderful story that owes much to the Pont family, who still own this château-museum.

01 - The Aeronautics Collection: a high-flying museum

Take to the skies at the aeronautics museum! In the grounds of the château, discover no fewer than 100 fighter aircraft from all over the world. Among them, 4 aircraft from the Patrouille de France, around ten MIG*s and around 17 Dassault aircraft stand out for their impressive stature. Inside the estate, you’ll find unique model aircraft and reproductions of rockets, including the famous Ariane. Add to this a collection of technical items relating to aviation, and you have a museum that gives wings to the Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune.

It’s a great way to learn more about firefighters and how they operated at the time.

05 - Wine Collection: the museum without a hitch

As a Burgundy wine estate, Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune owes it to itself to devote an exhibition space to the world of wine. And the gamble paid off. At the Musée du Matériel Vinaire et Viticole, you can retrace the development of winegrowing techniques through a collection of fascinating objects. And with its prototype tractor-stackers and antique wine presses, it’s THE place to go if you want to learn everything there is to know about the wine-making process.

Les Caves de l'Orangerie

The Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune may look like a cabinet of curiosities, but it is first and foremost a wine estate. The Caves de l’Orangerie consists of 10 hectares of vines and prestigious Côte de Beaune appellations: Meursault, Pommard and, of course, Savigny-lès-Beaune.
