Puligny-Montrachet

Puligny-Montrachet, on the golden road of the Grands Crus

On the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or, Puligny-Montrachet stretches between hills and vineyards like a well-kept secret. This Côte de Beaune wine village, cradle of the Chardonnay grape, is sure to capture the hearts of those who venture between Beaune and Santenay, further south. Here, wine is a gentle religion, an art of living sculpted by time. Alexandre Dumas put it this way: Montrachet wines are best enjoyed “on your knees with your head uncovered”.

Getting there

Exceptional Climats, classified by UNESCO

In Puligny-Montrachet, every row of vines tells a story. The appellation, created in 1937 at the same time as the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne, boasts 17 Climats classified as Premier Cru and 4 legendary Grands Crus: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. The vines turn golden in the rising sun, giving birth to golden white wines of great finesse and depth.

In 2025, the winegrowers in this village celebratedthe 10th anniversary of the Climats de Bourgogne being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the Fête des Gardiens des Climats: a theatrical and convivial event in the heart of the vineyards.

A terroir to savour with your lips

Glass in hand, we discover an exceptional white wine: a bouquet of hawthorn, hazelnut, honey, lemongrass… Concentrated, racy, elegant – a perfect companion for lobster, pan-fried veal or foie gras. Some rare Pinot Noir red wines are also produced here, with their soft, fruity ruby colour.

The Montrachet walk, a gourmet walking tour, invites you to enjoy the exceptional setting, the unique atmosphere, and the fragrance of heritage that wafts between cellars, winegrowers’ houses and vineyard paths.
