Aloxe-Corton

Aloxe-Corton: at the heart of Burgundy's Route des Grands Crus

Between the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, Aloxe-Corton sits proudly on the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or. This exceptional wine-growing village, nestling at the foot of the splendid Corton hill, unfurls its vineyards like a golden amphitheatre in the sunshine. With its legendary wines, emblematic châteaux and centuries-old traditions, everything here exudes the spirit of Burgundy, a place for sharing, wine and heritage.

Getting there

From Berthe aux grands pieds to the art of sharing

It all began around 740: according to legend, Berthe au grand pied, Charlemagne’s future mother, found refuge in Aloxe, where she was taken in by winegrowers. A wonderful story for a village where wine is a matter of love and transmission. Even today, Aloxe-Corton can be explored on foot, with its winegrowers’ houses, wash-houses, neo-Romanesque church and welcoming cellars. The atmosphere? Warm, genuine, Burgundian. Taste a glass, smile and enjoy a simple, unforgettable experience.

Must-sees in the village

To be local, pronounce it “Alosse”! The name may come from a certain Alussius, a Gallo-Roman from another era. Since then, the history of Aloxe has been written in letters of gold. Three châteaux dot the village:

  • Château Vergnette de la Motte(18th century), a former Cîteaux estate with a classical feel;
  • Château de Corton-Grancey, built in 1749 and famous for its winery carved out of the rock;
  • and the most famous, Château de Corton-André, topped by its multicoloured glazed roof, a dazzling symbol of Burgundy’s Route des Grands Crus.

Three homes, three eras, one passion: wine.

A real landmark in the landscape, theCortonhillock dominates Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. Crowned with vines, woods and legendary clos, it is home to some of Burgundy’s finest crus. Between the power of its terroir and the beauty of its views, the Butte de Corton embodies all the strength and identity of the Côte de Beaune.

Wines fit for an emperor

Here, Corton and Corton-Charlemagne are king. The reds, powerful and velvety, evoke black cherry and undergrowth; the whites, golden and mineral, combine richness and elegance.

Legend has it that Charlemagne imposed white wine so as not to stain his flowery beard. We love these crus as much for their taste as for their stories: Clos de Vergennes, once the property of Louis XVI’s minister; Cuvée Charlotte Dumay, born of a benefactress from the Hôtel-Dieu hospital. Each label carries a piece of memory.
