The Burgundy Truffle Route

A weekend that smells of truffles (and Burgundy)

On the Côte-d’Or Truffle Route, in the heart of the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or, swap your glass of wine for a truffle grower’s basket. From gourmet tours to forest walks and divinely scented tastings, this route will take your senses and your palate on a journey. From Nuits-Saint-Georges to Is-sur-Tille, passing through the vineyards and cellars, you’ll discover a black treasure as mysterious as it is delicious: the Burgundy truffle (Tuber uncinatum) is the local star here. A weekend at the crossroads of terroirs, traditions and aromas, where pleasure is king and the soil… a little magical.

Mouth-watering figures

Day 1 - Between terroir and hidden treasure

Head for Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the legendary Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or. We start with a visit to the Domaine de Montmain in Villars-Fontaine: the perfect combination of cellar and cavage.

Then it’s on to the activities: a walk with a truffle dog, an introduction to truffle tasting and meetings with passionate producers such as La Maison aux Mille Truffes in Marey-lès-Fussey or Truffe Passion in Curtil-Vergy. The day ends with a truffle dinner at an inn where every dish is a tribute to this black diamond.

Here‘s a fun fact: in the old days, truffles were so abundant that they were swapped for wine – a question of taste and balance!

Day 2 - Stroll, market and shared pleasures

A fragrant wake-up call to Marey-lès-Fussey at the Maison aux mille truffes: it’s time to pick! We’re off to the forest for a truffle-picking demonstration. La Maison aux mille truffes: a sensory centre where truffles are revealed in all their forms, with an immersive film, period objects and even a smell game!

Is-sur-Tille, the “capital” of Burgundy truffles, takes just 1 hour. Don’t miss the town’s not-to-be-missed truffle festival, held every year in October.

Anecdote of the day? Napoleon III loved Burgundy truffles… but without realising it, he often mixed them with Périgord truffles.

In just 2 days, the Côte-d’Or Truffle Route reveals much more than just a noble mushroom: it’s a typically Burgundian way of life, based on sharing, curiosity and the pleasure of the senses. Between vineyards and undergrowth, cellars and châteaux, this weekend combines gourmet delights and authenticity. You’ll leave with your hands full, your nose happy and your mind ready to come back for more. Because in Burgundy, the real wealth… is hidden underground!
