Every 2nd weekend in March, the prestigious Château du Clos de Vougeot and the Côte de Nuits come alive like a swarm of bees, at the heart of the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or. Since 1961, this event, billed as the ‘little sister’ of the Beaune sale, has attracted wine lovers, the curious and buyers from all over the world.

A Burgundian ritual at Clos de Vougeot

Just imagine: concentrated bidders, breathless, and all of a sudden, the price rises like a bubble of crémant. The scene is repeated every year in the great Cistercian cellar of Château Clos de Vougeot, a historic setting for great wine moments. The Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges, founded in the 13th century, has carried on this tradition of excellence and generosity since 1961, offering a range of wines from their estate for sale. These wines are still in their raw state, and will then be matured and bottled by a selected wine merchant in the region.

The room that changes everything

Since 2022, the highlight of the show has been the charity play, also known as the “cuvée des bienfaiteurs”. And every year it’s the fruit of a gesture of solidarity, since the profits from this exceptional production are donated to a charity. When wine becomes a gift, Burgundy proves that it has heart as well as body.

For professionals... and more!

While the majority of buyers are professionals, private individuals also have their place at the auction table: in advance, on site (by reservation), by telephone or… from the comfort of their own sofa, thanks to live Internet bidding!

And this event isn’t just about the hammer. On the Côte de Nuits that same weekend, you can set off on a great run at the Semi-Marathonde Nuits-Saint-Georges, vibrate to the rhythm of the musical wanderings, savour every food and wine pairing at the farmers’ markets or at the Salon du Chocolat… A celebration of the art of living, where everyone leaves with a souvenir, be it liquid, chocolate or engraved in the heart.
