La Karrière: art with a difference in the heart of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits

Between the vineyards of the Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne in the Côte-d’Or and the fields of blackcurrants, a discreet village hides a monumental nugget. In Villars-Fontaine, the old Burgundy stone quarry has been turned into an open-air gallery featuring electrifying concerts, fire shows and giant frescoes by well-known street-art artists. Everything here is XXL: the walls, the colours, the energy and, above all, the emotion. Welcome to La Karrière, a timeless multi-disciplinary venue as unique as a shot of blackcurrant in the hills above La Côte.

A scene like no other

Forget traditional concert halls: make way for an exceptional setting for concerts, in the middle of the smooth limestone cliffs. Every summer, the La Karrière Festival mixes music, theatre, dance and visual arts, in an atmosphere that alternates between chill and wild party. The site is also alive and kicking all year round: the walls host a programme of events for all ages, with workshops, performances and shows where culture and heritage join hands.

XXL-scale frescoes

Look up: the signatures of internationally famous artists cover the stone. Each fresco hides a nod to the vineyard: a stylised bunch of grapes, a camouflaged wine glass, the silhouette of a vine stock… A colourful treasure hunt devised by graffiti artists with a passion for drawing and grapes. Here, the Hautes Côtes de Nuits become the backdrop and the nearby Route du Cassis takes centre stage.

A festival like no other

It’s impossible to get bored at La Karrière: the graphic and performing arts intertwine to create unforgettable evenings. Dancing, laughing, marvelling at fire shows, sharing a drink with friends, vibrating to the rhythm of the sounds that resonate between the walls. More than a festival, it’s a sensory experience where Burgundian conviviality meets the audacity of the artists.
